While the Ford Fusion is being discontinued in 2021, the range-topping Sport trim is being axed sooner for the 2020 model year as Ford decided to kill off most of its passenger cars in favor of more lucrative SUVs. Powering the Fusion Sport sedan is a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine delivering 325 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

This wasn't enough for Matt Soppa, however, who decided to use a 2016 Fusion Sport as the base to build the ultimate sleeper sedan. Hoonigan Hoonigan Under the hood, the Fusion's V6 EcoSport has been replaced with a louder and more powerful 5.0-liter V8 from a Ford Mustang GT.

Specifically, it uses the same Coyote engine found in found in 2015-2017 Mustangs. Thanks to a custom engine tune and unique headers, Soppa claims his custom Fusion delivers around 450 hp, which is 125 more hp than the standard sedan.

All that power is sent through a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual gearbox derived from a 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. And while the stock Fusion was originally all-wheel-drive, power is sent to the rear wheels in Soppa's creation. Hoonigan Hoonigan Unsurprisingly, creating this one-of-a-kind Fusion proved to be a challenge.

A custom transmission tunnel had to be created to fit the transmission, and most of the cabin was stripped out to fit a rollcage and racing seats. There's even a drift car-style handbrake that makes it easier to start a drift – something the Fusion was never originally designed to do.

In contrast, the exterior livery is unassuming, with a white paint finish, black and red stripes, and stickers. The car also sits lower to the ground to further improve the handling.

In a video posted by Hoonigan Daily Transmission, we get to see Soppa take the Coyote-swapped Fusion for a test run, and he gives it a good workout. It's surreal watching a sedate family sedan performing some tire-shredding drifts.
