Last year, rumors suggested the Chevrolet Sonic was going to get the chop as a result of slow sales. At the time, Chevrolet denied these rumors and confirmed the Sonic will live on for the 2019 model year – but it looks like the struggling hatchback&#39;s time in the US could nearly be up.<br> Sources &quot;familiar with the automaker&#39;s developments&quot; have told GMAuthority that the Chevrolet Sonic has now been discontinued in Canada, so it&#39;s presumably only a matter of time before it gets killed off in the US. These claims haven&#39;t been officially confirmed yet, however, as GM Canada declined to comment on publication&#39;s request.

In Canada, less than 3,000 Sonics were delivered in 2018, a significant decrease compared to the 8,036 deliveries in 2014. Only 37 units were sold in October 2018 and 12 units in November 2018.

The subcompact has also already been discontinued in most other global markets, including Mexico, Central America, South America, as well as Australia, where it was available as the Holden Barina. South Korea remains the only market where the Sonic remains available, where it&#39;s sold as the Chevrolet Aveo.

Front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission are standard, or there&#39;s an optional six-speed automatic transmission. Based on its discontinuation in Canada and poor sales performance, we&#39;re not expecting the Sonic to survive beyond the 2019 model year in the US.
