Receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids (also known as receiver-in-ear devices) are similar to BTE hearing aids in that a curved plastic piece housing the microphone and amplifier sits behind the ear. But instead of enclosing the receiver in an ear mold that fills the opening of the ear canal, RIC hearing aids have a tiny receiver covered with a rubber or silicone tip, similar to an earbud.
