“A large flare can look super cute and trendy, but I can't tell you the number of times I've seen someone trip either just walking into the studio or moving into or out of a pose—it has happened to me as well,” says Powell. “If a student is in an inversion and their foot gets caught in the flare, they can actually hurt themselves coming down. And, of course, if the flares are dragging on the ground, you can easily trip on them.
