That sounds like a reasonable goal at first, but consider this factor: the Model Y is slated to be built at the same California factory that's currently working around the clock the meet Model 3 production goals. Reuters learned his information from two unnamed sources who have knowledge of Tesla's supply chain. Furthermore, Tesla is now accepting preliminary bids for Model Y supplier contracts.

The Model Y, as we've long known, will be a compact crossover smaller than the current Model X. It will share a platform with the Model 3 sedan.
On the one hand, we have a lot of admiration for Tesla and how it disrupted the auto industry by proving EVs can not only look good, but can also be used in regular daily driving. Considering America (and the world, for that matter) was previously set up with an internal combustion refueling infrastructure, Tesla's achievements are impressive.

At about one-and-a-half years away, a November 2019 start date for the Model Y would be considered "aggressive, but possible," said one of the sources. A shorter timeline is potentially feasible, the source said, as the Model Y will be built on the same platform as the Model 3." And let's not forget this: Tesla Semi production is also slated to kick off sometime in 2019 as well. The following year, the next generation Roadster is due.
