Lemoine has been put on paid leave from his job, and observers have been quick to criticize his observations.&nbsp; "I think what he means to say is that the chatbot has human-like intelligence," Kentaro Toyama, a professor of community information at the University of Michigan who researches AI and the author of Geek Heresy: Rescuing Social Change from the Cult of Technology, told Lifewire in an email interview. "And, on that point, he's probably right. Today's technology is certainly within the range of human-like intelligence." <h2> Human-Like Chats </h2> In an interview with the Washington Post, Lemoine noted that one of Google&#39;s AI systems might have its own feelings and that its &#34;wants&#34; should be respected.
