Super Nintendo World was originally scheduled to open within Universal Japan during summer 2020, but it now seems that the global coronavirus pandemic has nixed those plans. Credit: Nintendo The news comes from Bloomberg, where it’s reported that although summer 2020 will no longer be the opening day for the IRL Mushroom Kingdom, there’s still a chance it will open its doors at some point in 2020.

Earlier this month, the CEO of Universal Studios parent company Comcast confirmed the site will open “a few months past our original expectation” due to delays with construction.ADVERT ADVERT Judging from leaked snaps of the park, it’s coming along very nicely, though of course we don’t know to what extent the coronavirus pandemic has halted the proceedings. We have a spinning green shell at Super Nintendo World ??

Although the karts won’t be able to glide and hover over dangerous ravines or launch giant spiked shells at opponents, the vehicles seem to run on a trackless system. They appear to hold four riders, so not everyone will have a chance to drive.

We’re not sure how weapons work, but it’s easy to imagine a system where you fire virtual shells at each other and cause enemy karts to spin out of control/stall. Check out the trailer below!ADVERT ADVERT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTSA709zNzY&feature=youtu.be Featured Image Credit: Universal
