#1 Skyrim Special Edition Not Starting
A lot of players are complaining because they are unable to open the game. When they try to start the game and click the Play button in the Steam Library, nothing happens and the game won’t start.

For some players, the avatar icon switches to green and instantly back to blue, meaning that the Steam interface started the game but nothing appears on the screen. Workarounds: First, try these two workarounds below and see if you can start the game. If not, follow the three solutions below and if nothing works for you, check the “best solution” and this should fix your game and you should be able to start and play it.

Try to run the game in compatibility mode
Reinstall Visual C++ Solution 1: If you are not using any mods and it’s just not starting, change the “skyrimSE.exe” and “skyrimSELauncher.exe” permissions to run as Administrator and to run as windows 7 compatibility. Right click on the exe files (found in your Skyrim SE game directory) then click properties.

This has been reported to help many. Solution 3: (By ScrubLordBlunticulus): Change your Skyrim SE display graphics from Integrated Graphics to High-Performance NVidia processor in your Nvidia control panel.

#2 Skyrim Special Edition Black Screen
Apparently, players encounter this issue only at the startup of the game, they see a little launcher box and when they click Play, the only thing they see is a black screen with the background music running and nothing else. This is an issue that currently doesn’t have a definitive fix, you can try that solution below. If nothing works, you can just play Spider Solitaire.

Solution for Nvidia players: Go to Control Panel and switch or change the GPU you were using. You encounter this issue because you are not playing on your dedicated GPU, you are playing with the one integrated in your processing unit.

You can change the language in Skyrim.ini. If you have a foreign language OS it might not understand your computer so well, using an English or a supported language for your OS (as seen on the Steam Skyrim SE store page) may be helpful. Rebooting is always a good first step because certain things may require a restart such as Vredist which is installed with Skyrim SE. Try restarting the game or at least Steam. Solution 5 (By jesusleton): Try activating triple buffer in your Nvidia control panel.

It’s obvious that the game requires a lot from your PC but performance issues are encountered even by players with a super high-end PC. This means that the game is poorly optimized and that’s why you are encountering Low FPS, FPS Drops or Stuttering.

From what I’ve seen this is mostly an nVidia issue. Go to your NVIDIA control panel and then go to “Mange 3D settings”. Add Skyrim SE if it’s not in the list and then change its settings from Global/Integrated Graphis to High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Disabling G-Sync can vastly improve performance and remove stuttering. For freezes: This bug occurs during a grid transition, if staying in the same grid, the game would run fine and not crash but leaving the grid, it would crash.

I tried getting arrested, didn’t work I tried doing missions that force a new follower on you: I did the moss mother one. Nothing. So I went and completed the thieves guild quests.

Aela replaced my current follower. Athis has not reappeared so I assume he died somewhere and the game didn’t recognize the death.

And when I did work the game wouldn’t even let me fast travel without the game getting stuck in a loading screen. Have tried everything under then sun and even in and reinstalled it and still having issues….

One way of checking if your game will load is if there is music playing on the menu screen.

I have tried literally everything i can think of i have updated windows, all nvidea drivers.

Deleted the .exe files and validated them to reinstall them, I have checked to make sure i got latest directx, i have the latest C++ thing and i have the latest .Netframework. i have run it as admin, i didnt run compatability mode for windows 7 as i have windows 10.

My PC is Beafy enough for the game 5680k i7, 16gb ddr4 ram, gtx 980 with 4gb of card memory. i made a new save with 2 mods the unofficial patch and SMIM. I also tried the triple buffer thing didnt work.

I also have the unofficial and SMIM mods. There is a specific point in bleakfalls barrow where turning around and, apparently, looking after a certain corner, freezes the game. I’ll select the icon, the menu comes up, and then User Account Controls asks if I want SkyrimSElauncher.exe to make changes to my computer. I press “Yes”, then the menu reloads, and if I continue pressing “PLAY”, the menu will keep refreshing over and over and never actually start the game.

I am running a brand new High end pc…GTX 1080, i7 cpu 32 g ram… the works… Got the game working…and the son of a bitch freezes after about 5 minutes of play… I am even limiting my FPS to less than 70 to stop the physics engine from freaking the hell out. I don’t know what is up.
