Hotel review Hotel Santa Caterina Amalfi By Ellie Allen-Eslor - May 9, 2022 Sitting on the sunny bar terrace, sipping an Aperol Spritz and looking out over the sparkling sea, it’s hard not to feel like one of the many glamorous celebrities that have visited Hotel Santa Caterina over the years. Built at the end of the nineteenth century, this stunning hotel, perched on the top of a cliff, offers incredible views not only of the Amalfi Bay but also the town itself, which is just a fifteen minute walk away. Hotel Santa Caterina review
Rooms and facilities The large estate provides numerous rooms and suites, surrounded by beautiful gardens and lemon groves that meander down the cliff front to the coastline where there’s a heated pool and private beach club.

The rooms are spacious and bright with beautiful hand-painted tiles dotted throughout the hotel. I was lucky enough to get a front sea view balcony which was vast and rather breath-taking.

New for this summer the hotel will also offer three villas which can accommodate up to 14 people, with a private pool, terraces and a stunning outside eating area. There is also a small gym with panoramic views and spa offering various massages and treatments. Food and Drink Santa Caterina offers two dining options, most impressively the Michelin starred Glicine restaurant which offers elegant dishes perfectly paired with sensational wine.

Think fine dining with Mediterranean flavours at its core. As someone with a wheat intolerance I am often slightly cautious of Italian cuisine but I couldn’t have been better catered to.

The beach club’s Restaurant Al Mare serves up slightly more relaxed food all day during the summer months. There are also two bar areas with outdoor terraces where you can make your way through the extensive cocktail menu (just keep a safe distance from the terrace edge if you’ve made it to the second page!).

Hotel highlights Every part of this hotel feels luxurious and I can’t imagine a better view. Whether it be the sunshine bouncing off the water during the day or the twinkling lights of the dock in Amalfi at night, I could have gazed out from my balcony for hours on end. What to do nearby A walking tour of Amalfi town is a relaxed and informative way to spend a couple of hours and learn what makes the locals so proud of their hometown.

This sense of pride seems to be a common feeling when meeting people in Amalfi and certainly radiated from the local, family-run winery, Marisa Cuomo. I would thoroughly recommend the tour and tasting. Although it’s only a short walk to Amalfi town, the hotel also offers a shuttle service to the centre, from where you can get a bus to neighbouring towns or the ferry to Sorrento, Capri and Salerno.
