Well, just to remind you, dear readers, ESA - the parent company of E3 - has . Effectively, this means that E3 and Summer Game Fest will be hosting competing physical events, likely at the same time. Just to be clear, we're still a tad sceptical at the likelihood of E3 actually making a full return, but if the ESA does indeed follow through with its plans in 2023, we suspect that it will end in tears for one of the organisations.

After all, Summer Game Fest has been gaining significant ground in recent years, particularly in light of the cancellation of E3 2020. On the other hand, the E3 name still holds considerable power - after all, we've been calling this year's festivities 'not-E3'!

Either way, we're not too keen on the prospect of two major gaming events occurring concurrently; it sounds like a bit of a nightmare, quite frankly. We'll have to wait and see what the coming months bring, but rest assured, it will undoubtedly be full of great games.

And considering how garbage the Summer Games Fest was I'll just stick with E3. I just want to get some information about upcoming kids games on either PS4 / PS5 / Switch.

Only if it comes with a lounge chair and pillow so i can nap comfortably while they show more generic pc games. It'll just take announcements away from E3. This is bad.

Why can't he just stick with making The Game Awards better rather than having two lousy events every year. Summer Game Fest is awful.

Given how trash summer game fest was this year, I dont have high hopes for this Sure, whatever you say Geoff I don't think it'll do well against E3, but hopefully the competition makes both events better. With this move I could honestly see E3 being fully cancelled which will be very sad times for Nintendo fans.

Keighley's events are overlong and rarely worth sitting through. I appreciate Summer Game Fest more, but they need some heavier hitters if they want to compete. Technically the same goes for E3 though.

If either of them come back in 2023 with a physical showing, but neither have a Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo presence, then gamers lose overall. The war that has been in the making for 2 years will finally come to a clash. My money is on E3.

I got 50 bucks on e3 winning, because e3 is actually exciting not just "let's spend 20 minutes on cod, and then end the show with 5 minutes talking about a TV show where we only show a screenshot and concept art, then talk about another remake of a game for 15 mins" summer game fest was a bore. His event was somehow worse than E3 normally is The games industry has grown a lot since E3 started, to say the least. There’s definitely room for two or more E3 type conventions in a year.

Nintendo is loyal to their ESA relationship, but if Geoff just had the likes of Embracer Group and a smattering of “indie” publishers, he’d have a substantial event. So sure why not? Not that I care either way lol Geoff has failed to impress my thus far and anyway, I prefer to five or so days of constant annoucements over a drip-feed of low-to-mid-tier reveals First of all, who says they have to compete directly?

Summer Game Fest can easily take place days before or after E3. Second, I suspect the real winner will be determined by whichever entity offers the best "price" to its participants. We all know every publisher with games featured in SGF paid for its participation, just as they do for floor space at E3.

Nintendo probably won't, because it has traditionally used in-person E3 to play-test upcoming titles, but maybe it's decided to stick with Directs from now on. (I doubt Nintendo defects to SGF, but who knows?) We'll see!

I have my opinions on that, but it isn’t really relevant here. Anyway due to rising Covid cases they went to a digital model, and then just scrapped it all together. My only guess for scrapping the digital model is that it wouldn’t bring in a net profit for the Serb.

Gotcha. Hopefully E3 will return in 2023 in physical format and digital for those that want that. I know E3 2019 was probably the last actual conference we've got, but since The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 delayed till early 2023, what would Nintendo show at E3 2023 if it were to happen?

Keighley shows have never been good, at least Microsoft and Nintendo put on good E3 shows last year. E3 certainly isn't perfect, but its always been miles better than SGF. I kinda dislike how most of reasoning behind why E3 should be dead boils down to Sony not showing up anymore.

The big companies spend 3-4 months preparing for E3 and honestly don't care much about Summer Games Fest. Imo the best thing would either be Summer Games Fest to dissolve once the big companies go back to E3, or for Summer Games Fest to turn into an indies presentation.
