The 2021 Genesis G80 was revealed right at the end of March and we anticipate it will be a strong competitor in the mid-size luxury sedan segment. All of the G80's specifications compare strongly against its luxury rivals except when it comes to available horsepower.
The G80's base engine will be a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 304 hp, which stacks up well against its four-cylinder competitors. Likewise, the G80's optional 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with 380 hp is more powerful than most of its six-cylinder rivals.

But while Audi, BMW, and Mercedes all have performance versions of their mid-size sedans producing much greater output, Genesis has not yet announced a more potent version of the new G80. But it's coming.

Genesis Genesis Genesis The most powerful version of the previous G80 was a 5.0-liter V8 known internally as the Tau. The Tau V8 produced 420 hp, which put the G80 on par with mid-level performance variants of European luxury sedans like the Audi S6 and BMW M550i.

While the Tau V8 will be discontinued after the previous G80 and current G90 go out of production, it will spawn a successor. According to a leaked document obtained by AutoDaum, Genesis is working on a more powerful version of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 to replace the Tau V8.
Genesis Genesis Genesis We already know the Genesis brand won't use Hyundai's N moniker, so this new version of the G80 will reportedly be called the G80 Sport. It will be powered by the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 found in the standard G80, only it will be tuned to produce around 420 hp and 412 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, this is about the same horsepower rating as the old Tau V8 with an increase of around 30 lb-ft of torque.

Since the 365-hp version of Genesis' 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 was already as quick as the Tau V8 in a straight line, we have no doubt this new V6 will be even faster. While it won't be nearly as potent as the RS7, M5, or E63, the G80 Sport will offer the healthy bump in performance we've been wanting from Genesis.
