They're not dumb, they've been screwed over before and they want to make sure there's no funny business this time. Probably wants more input, and they've earned it. Black Adam received a mixed critical reception upon its theatrical release on October 21, but has had the strongest box office opening night since 2018's Aquaman. Discovery's plans for the DCEU after an extensive period of uncertainty. You haven’t, the film just doesn’t have the patience to do that work. At this point, DC may feel that it wouldn't be a huge deal to jokingly tease that Superman is in the new film.

The result is two hours of mounting conflict between characters we have no reason to care about, with motivations so unclear that the movie has to grind to a halt every 20 minutes so the characters can explain what’s going on. As well as this, the releases of both the original cut of Justice League and Zack Snyder's Justice League have created uncertainty about which events could be considered canon to the rest of the DCEU. With Black Adam now out in theaters, time will tell when Cavill's Superman will next re-emerge in the DCEU, especially after the big post-credits scene with Johnson's titular character.

Discovery is at least committed to maintaining and building upon the parts of the DCEU that have been received well by audiences. While many of the films that had featured him had received polarizing to negative receptions following his debut in Man of Steel, Cavill's Superman has been a widely-praised casting decision in the DCEU.

Weirdly, the biggest cipher here is Black Adam himself, who we get lots of exposition about, but very little insight. As such, many dedicated DCEU fans have hoped that the actor would receive another chance to show off his portrayal of the character on-screen.

One battle between Hawkman and Black Adam barely shows footage of Hodge and Johnson fighting at all, settling instead for flashy CGI closeups of Hawkman’s armor slicing through posters on a wall, and noise that lets us know someone was just thrown across the room.
