Our spies caught the new Volkswagen Arteon R being put through its paces at the Green Hell, and now the new Golf R has been spied racing around the iconic German circuit. Ever since the new eighth-generation Golf was revealed last year, enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting VW&#39;s new performance variants. The new Volkswagen Golf GTI broke cover last month, and so the wait begins for the new range-topping Golf R to arrive.

CarBuzz CarBuzz Like the prototype that was spied last year, Volkswagen hasn't bothered to extensively disguise the Golf R during its testing session at the Nurburgring. The front bumper has been lightly covered, but other than that this prototype is completely free of camouflage, giving us a clear look at the hot hatchback's sporty design. Compared to the previous prototype, this one has been fitted with a large rear spoiler to keep the Golf R glued to the track during the high-speed testing.
