Caldo Verde & Cara Cara at Downtown LA Proper Hotel
Downtown LA
At Caldo Verde, James Beard award-winning chef Suzanne Goin and restaurateur Caroline Styne showcase a menu that marries Portuguese flavors with California sensibilities, all within a stately setting steeped in natural light and adorned with the works of local artists. Peruse options like Piri Piri Chicken, a steaming Caldo Verde stew for two, and Yellow Tomato Campechana, paired with craft concoctions that utilize Spanish gin and port wine, like the Portuguese Highball with white port, sour cherry liqueur, and lemon. From there, head upstairs for a taste of the team’s work at Cara Cara, an expansive, lushly landscaped outdoor space boasting epic skyline views and a menu of gussied up favorites like Quinoa Fritters, a Maine Lobster Roll with piri-piri aoili, and harissa-grilled prawns.
How to book: Make reservations via OpenTable for both Caldo Verde and Cara Cara.

Cabra at The Hoxton
Downtown LA
Chef Stephanie Izard was the first woman to win Bravo’s Top Chef and has been stunting in the industry ever since, first with her three award-winning Chicago restaurants and more recently, with her LA outpost of Girl & The Goat and the newly opened Cabra, a Peruvian-inflected restaurant on the rooftop of the Hoxton hotel. There’s no bad seat here, whether you choose a view of the open chef’s kitchen with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer dramatic Downtown views, or a wind-swept option on the lush open patio next to the pool.

The menu puts a California twist on Peruvian favorites like Lomo Saltado—Izard’s version adds caramelized veggies and tater tots to the wood-fired steak dish—and empanadas filled with swiss chard and kale. The cocktail menu features the Peruvian spirit pisco throughout, including the classic Pisco Sour, as well as Pisco Fever with pisco, mango, and frozen aji panca.

San Laurel and Agua Viva at The Conrad Los Angeles
Downtown LA
When this hotel debuted over the summer, it brought with it two dynamic culinary concepts from acclaimed chef José Andrés and his ThinkFoodGroup team. At San Laurel, you can expect Spanish fare through a California lens, with options like Grilled Romaine with Manchego Espuma, Roasted Celeriac Carpaccio, and Vermicelli “Mac n’ Cheese” (with fideua pasta, morels, and crispy shallots).

Rooftop views and beach club vibes make up the scene at Agua Viva, where refreshing cocktails and Latin- and Asian-inspired shared plates can be enjoyed poolside or in an open-air dining room. As if that weren’t enough, other cocktail and snack outlets await throughout the property, including SED, The Beaudry Room, and Airlight.
How to book: Reservations can be made via SevenRooms for both San Laurel and Agua Viva. Photo courtesy of etta
etta & Canopy Club at The Shay
Culver City
Michelin-starred chef Danny Grant brought his critically acclaimed restaurant etta to this Culver City hotel, serving many of the dishes that have become staples at the restaurant’s sister locations in Chicago and Scottsdale (think Ricotta Pillows and Sunday Sauce Meatballs).
A wood-fired hearth functions as the focal point and is responsible for standouts like the Cacio e Pepe and fire-baked focaccia, with ricotta, honey, and black truffle. This July saw the opening of Canopy Club, a rooftop and poolside retreat featuring all-day menus rooted in modern Californian cuisine, including Lobster Frites for two, a Crispy Fish Sandwich, and the ever-popular Shay Burger.
How to book: Reservations can be made via OpenTable for both etta and Canopy Club.

Santa Monica
Chef Jason Francisco helms the menu at this Santa Monica newcomer, where he puts forth California coastal fare featuring line-caught, sustainable seafood, alongside abundant plant-based and fresh produce options. Start things off with plates of Smoked Watermelon Sashimi and Charred Octopus, then move towards larger orders of Jidori Half Chicken, Steak Frites, or Whole Branzino. Grab one of the market-driven drinks at the venue’s wraparound bar, which guides guests back to the palm-tree lined patio, complete with dining cabanas, live DJ performances, and firepits.

What’s not to love about Merois? It’s situated on a stunning rooftop, the food is a fusion of some of our favorite cuisines including California, French, and Japanese, and the menu is curated by the legend himself, Wolfgang Puck.

Housed within the luxurious Pendry hotel, the restaurant features an outdoor bar and rooftop lounge equipped with a fireplace so you can cozy up with your cocktails, but seating is limited to enhance the intimate date night vibes. The restaurant menu leans heavily on sushi and seafood dishes, but there are some standout vegetable and meat dishes like the Japanese A5 NY Strip.
How to book: Reservations can be made via SevenRooms.

The Italian steakhouse is inspired by her summers spent cooking over open fires in Italy so you can expect wood-fired grilled steaks that are dry-aged in house, plus fish and chicken, though baked pasta dishes also make a cameo. Make sure to stop by the Spare Room afterwards, the hotel’s cocktail lounge equipped with bowling lanes and classic games.
How to book: Reservations can be made via OpenTable.

Ardor at West Hollywood EDITION
West Hollywood
Ardor is Michelin-starred chef John Fraser’s love letter to vegetables, so naturally, the menu centers around what’s fresh and in season. Request a table on the patio, with lush greenery throughout, then fill up on veg-forward plates like Sweet Potato Curry, Cauliflower Cacio e Pepe, and Arugula Farro Risotto. There are plenty of meat and seafood options as well, including crudos and ceviche and entrees like Dry Aged Filet Mignon and lamb that’s been aged 14 days and cooked under pine.
Pair it all up with any of the vibrantly hued cocktails (try the “Green,” with vodka, avocado, and chartreuse). When it comes time for dessert, don’t miss the Mille Feuille, a comforting finale of meyer lemon, vanilla, and chamomile.

You might mistake FIG for a greenhouse with all the hanging plants and living walls, but take it as an homage to its farm-to-table menu that sources heavily from the neighboring Santa Monica Farmers Market.

There’s something for everyone on the menu, including a Lamb Bolognese, a variety of pizzas, seafood options like clams, oysters, and scallops, and oven-roasted vegetables. The best time to dine is between 5–6 pm Tuesday through Saturday so you can take advantage of the half-priced FIG at 5 happy hour menu (word to the wise: book ahead).

Also, check out Soko, a sushi concept that opened in honor of the hotel’s centennial celebration last year. Opt for the omakase, featuring either 6 or 12 courses of the chef’s choosing, or go a la carte with hyper-fresh sashimi and nigiri.

Signatures like the Baja Red Snapper and housemade sourdough bread will always be on the menu, but new additions include Lobster Al Pastor, Oyster Mushrooms with a cilantro-yogurt sauce and sumac, and a Compressed Honeydew Melon Salad with Persian cucumber, lime, and chili oil. For a truly zen experience, dine on the terrace, which faces a tranquil pond and waterfall.

The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel
Beverly Hills
You can’t get any more quintessential LA than The Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge, where power lunches were practically invented. The aptly named “Pink Palace” is home to Hollywood royalty, so don’t be surprised if you run into a celebrity or two here—just be sure to play it cool. During the week The Polo Lounge is bustling with Hollywood’s movers and shakers, but for low-key vibes, check out the Sunday brunch between 11 am–3 pm for live music and decadent daytime fare.

1 Pico at Shutters on the Beach
This al fresco dining destination is brimming with charm, thanks to its shabby chic furniture, hanging lanterns, and string lighting. The Courtyard at 1Pico is open for weekend brunch and weeknight dinner, with the former offering a mix of plates like the Frittata Caprese, an omelet with hen of the woods mushrooms, a Wagyu Burger, and grilled pizza (for when you’re nursing those Saturday night hangovers).
