The tiny A-frame does have electricity, but the nearby outhouse does not have plumbing (aka no showers or running water), so this is truly a rustic experience. But who cares about showering when you can spend your days visiting chickens, goats, and cows, fishing in the two large ponds or Walkill River, or playing disc golf, and your nights grilling out, playing board games, or sitting around the outdoor fire pit?

We had picnics on the lawn next to the house, walked to the local park, took advantage of off-leash dog trails nearby, went to Kopachuck to explore the beach, and took the quick drive into town for food and drinks. In other words, it needs to be the perfect cherry red-which, as luck (and paint) would have it, is exactly what this New England property is. The barn sits on four acres of Connecticut countryside with gardens, a seasonal swimming pool, and a year-round hot tub. Obviously, the time to go is in the autumn when the fall foliage is living/dying its best life, but it's a gorgeous spot any time of year-especially if you enjoy colonial history, of which you'll find plenty in the surrounding towns.
