Last February, we learned that the race-going version of the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar was being postponed due to the merging of the hypercar class with the LMDh prototype category in the World Endurance Championship. However, development of the road-going version was continuing as planned with the UK sports car company teasing the car during its final development stage on public roads in March.
But this was before the coronavirus pandemic struck, Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll's $657 million investment that saw him also become Executive Chairman, and the replacement of Dr. Andy Palmer as CEO with now-former Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers.

Aston Martin has also been struggling financially, even as the new DBX SUV is rolling off the production line at a brand-new facility in Wales. Aston Martin Aston Martin Aston Martin Aston Martin Unfortunately, the new reality could spell problems for the Valkyrie. According to Italian language Formula Passion, the Valkyrie is still having some general reliability issues only discovered after the first round of road tests.
Handling is also said to be an issue. Aston Martin has a few options. The first is to continue development and solve these problems, but this would delay the car's arrival even longer.

An additional 25 customers have signed on for the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro version, so that's not so much of an issue. But the road car customers have also committed to paying around $3.25 million for their cars. Would they be willing to settle for a track-only Valkyrie instead?

Remember, this is merely a rumor and Aston Martin hasn't confirmed anything at this time. But the source also hinted there's another option which hasn't been ruled out: tossing the entire Valkyrie project into the bin and focus on producing the DBX instead.
