“Saw palmetto has the same mechanism of action as finasteride (prescription medication for hair loss), which is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. Saw palmetto is one of the only OTC supplements that has proven benefits for hair loss,” Singh says. Biotin: It has benefits for your body, and it’s certainly popular for use in hair products, but it’s lacking research on its help with hair growth.
